Alice Townes – Partner

Alice Townes advises on the state, local, Federal and cross-border taxation of corporate and pass-through business transactions. During her 10 years of practice, Alice has primarily advised technology companies and their investors engaging in mergers and acquisitions. Alice’s clients have ranged from some of the largest companies in the United States and abroad, all the way through to pre-revenue venture-backed companies developing cutting edge technologies. In connection with this practice, Alice also provides advice to companies and their executives regarding taxation and compensation matters. In addition to optimizing the structure of these transactions and negotiating their key tax terms, Alice regularly performs buy-side due diligence on M&A transactions.

Prior to joining Belcher, Smolen & Van Loo, Alice practiced at Perkins Coie LLP’s San Francisco office, primarily serving the firm’s Bay Area M&A, Emerging Company and Venture Capital clients. Before moving to Silicon Valley, Alice received a BA, with honors, in religious studies from Rice University. She received a LLM in Taxation from New York University and received a JD, magna cum laude, from New York Law School.

Alice is a member of the bar in California, and is registered to practice before the United States Tax Court.
